GIIR DI MONT - 30th EDITION
29 July 2024We are proud to have contributed as one of the main sponsors to the 30th edition of the Giir di Mont, an exciting mountain running race held on July 30, 2024, in Premana, Valvarrone. The race course traditionally covers the 12 characteristic alpine pastures of the village, called "i mont" in dialect, and crossed places of extraordinary beauty. This year, the event attracted 800 athletes from 18 countries, mobilized the efforts of 600 volunteers, and drew 5,000 spectators.
The classic 32 km race with a positive elevation gain of 2700 meters is a crucial stage of the “Valsir Mountain World Cup” and showcased the world's best mountain runners in a race that alternates between challenging climbs and equally tough descents. Along with them, a large number of non-professional but passionate mountain athletes competed, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd.
The victory went to Kenyan athlete Micheal Selelo Saoli, who clocked in at 3h21’02”. Italian Daniel Pattis came in second, just 7 seconds behind, while Spanish athlete Antonio Martinez Perez completed the podium. The top Premana local finisher was Mattia Gianola, who placed eighth with a time of 3h32’40”.
In the women's race, Romanian Ioana Madalina Amairei, born in 1995, won with a time of 4h09’20”. Spanish Ikram Laktab Rharsalla came in second, while British athlete Sara Willhoit took third place. The top local female finisher from Premana was Lara Rizzi, who placed 22nd with a time of 5h49’24”.
In the "mini" 18 km version, Kenya took gold and silver with Mwangi Ephanuts Njeri first and Elija Kamau Kariuki second. Italy climbed the podium with Luca Curioni in third place, followed closely by local athlete Paolo Gianola. In the women's mini race, Martina Bilora won with a time of 1h56’26”, Anna Hofer came in second at 2h00’38”, and Francesca Colombo (Atletica Lecco Colombo Costruzioni) took third place with a time of 2h07’31”.
